Trail Ridge Road and Rocky Mountain National Park

This spectacular road takes you through the heart of Rocky Mountain National Park. Start your adventure by driving west on US-36 to Estes Park, the gateway to the park. From there, take Trail Ridge Road (US-34), which winds through alpine landscapes and offers breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, verdant meadows, and crystal-clear lakes. At certain altitudes, the road reaches over 3,700 meters, making this experience an extraordinary adventure. Return to Denver via Granby and US-40 for a complete loop.

Mount Evans Scenic Byway

The Mount Evans Scenic Byway is one of the highest paved roads in North America. Take I-70 west from Denver to Idaho Springs, then follow the Colorado State Highway 103 to Echo Lake. From there, continue on Route 5 to the summit of Mount Evans, peaking at 4,310 meters. This winding and ascending route offers incredible panoramas at every turn. Plan to make frequent stops to admire the views and possibly spot local wildlife like bighorn sheep.

Pikes Peak Highway

Head south on I-25 to Colorado Springs, then take US-24 to reach the ascent of Pikes Peak. This 31-kilometer road winds up to the summit of Pikes Peak, at an altitude of 4,300 meters. The panoramic views from the summit are stunning and provide an incredible perspective on the eastern plains and western mountains. On your way down, take the time to explore the region and perhaps visit the Garden of the Gods.

Million Dollar Highway

For a more extensive road trip, take I-70 west towards Grand Junction, then head south on US-550. This road, known as the "Million Dollar Highway," takes you through some of Colorado’s most spectacular and diverse landscapes. Through the historic towns of Ouray and Silverton, this route offers winding turns, breathtaking views of steep canyons, and majestic mountains. Plan frequent stops to appreciate the old mining towns and stunning natural sites. Return via Durango, then head east on US-160 and join Denver via I-25.

The Aspen Loop in Autumn
